If You Don’t Ask, You Don’t Get!

At the age of almost 50, Jeffrey de Wilde, SELLBYTEL Group Sales Director in Barcelona, knows what a rewarding career looks like. Originally from Amsterdam, the friendly 49 year old joined SELLBYTEL in 2007 as a Senior Trainer & Coach in communication and sales. Before that, he collected more than 25 years of experience in the IT sector as a business owner, Sales Coach and Business Consultant. In our latest interview he tells us all about his time with SELLBYTEL.

Jeffrey, how has your career developed within the SELLBYTEL Group?

I started in 2007 as a Quality Analyst. Soon after, I developed into Soft Skills Trainer Communication & Sales and later Senior Trainer. In 2014, I had the opportunity to help different projects improve their operational efficiency. This included me supporting the Project Managers and their Supervisors with managing teams and developing business training courses.

What does your current role exactly involve?

Being the Sales Director for our client, a leading international computer manufacturer, my daily tasks include taking care of the channel sales department or resellers and business development team. Respectively, I work very closely with our client on-site in Barcelona, managing more than 70 people. Overall I am responsible for our partners’ business growth by helping sell solutions to customers and maximizing sales figures.

And what is your favorite thing about your position?

The great international vibe within the company gives me a lot of joy. This is due to the enormous amount of different nationalities working for SELLBYTEL. That is clearly one of my main drivers for this position.

What are your tips to others looking for a similar career path within the company?

To get the best results, first figure out how you and your colleagues work together best before assigning tasks. My motto is: “If you don’t ask, you don’t get”. That means: do communicate, ask for advice if needed, share experiences and be open-minded.

And finally, how do you like to spend your free time?

I try to relax as much as possible with my family. I am also very much into city trips and having a nice glass of red wine. All of these things make me a happy man! (Laughs)
