Teach and learn, give and take!
SELLBYTEL Operations Manager Valentina Pane, who originally comes from a small town close to Milan, Italy, has always had the desire to taste life outside of her hometown and country. The 33 year old studied law in Chicago, later moved to Dublin, and finally came to Barcelona, where she has been living for over six years.
Valentina, you have been with SELLBYTEL for five years now. Please give us an idea of your time with us so far!
Well, I have a strong sales background, which I have always wanted to build on. So the next logical step was to continue my sales career with SELLBYTEL. I originally started as a Technical Support Specialist for the areas of up- and cross-selling with the client, a leading producer of printers and scanners. I later moved on as a Team Leader of the Spanish, Italian and French teams for the online store project of a producer of IT lifestyle products. After another year, I became Program Manager for the Swedish market. Since September 2014, I have been Operations Manager for our client, an international provider of internet services, in Barcelona.
So your new role is still pretty fresh… What exactly does it involve?
My role pretty much involves all operational aspects of the client’s business, including the development of new tools enabling our business operations to run more effectively. I also oversee my team members’ productivity and their individual target achievement. This involves the training and development of employees. I further prepare and analyze our quarterly business reviews and I take care of hiring new employees. I do all that in line with our colleagues in Kuala Lumpur.
Does your previous sales experience help you with your current role?
My previous experience with other SELLBYTEL sales projects really helps me coach my team successfully and prepare sales reports. I used to find this pretty challenging.
Speaking of challenges… How do you handle your daily challenges?
I try to go day by day and be patient with myself. I like to share my knowledge and experience with my team. I want to make sure they benefit from me. At the same time, I intend to learn from my team too. So you can say… my approach is to equally teach and learn!
You are an experienced saleswoman. Any tips for upcoming sales talents?
Never forget where you once started. That is the best way to gain trust and respect from your team members!
How do you spend your time outside of work?
I am really into sports, cycling and snowboarding. I further like to spend a lot of time with my twin brother, who also lives in Barcelona and works for SELLBYTEL. That’s really handy!
