Our South African colleague Louise just celebrated her 5 year anniversary with SELLBYTEL. During this time, the 32 year old has repeatedly shown what you can achieve when you commit yourself and go the extra mile. In this interview the Program Manager for our internet services client reveals how she managed to get to where she is today.
Louise, how did you start at SELLBYTEL? And how has your career developed within the company?
I started as a UK Sales Rep for our partner program, a leading social media platform, in March 2012. In August 2012, I was promoted to Team Lead, where I spent about 2,5 years furthering my skills. In March 2015, I was given the opportunity to implement a new program for SELLBYTEL in the internet services field, as the Program Manager.
And what does your current role with the SELLBYTEL Group involve?
I manage the day-to-day operations of the program, ensuring a smooth operation and setting it up for future growth. I also make sure the Team Leads and the whole team have all the tools and knowledge they need to be successful. A big part of my role is to build a strong partnership between SELLBYTEL and our client, making sure the client is happy with the services we provide.
Is there anything you particularly like about your position?
Someone once told me that being a Program Manager is like running your own business, as it involves the same tasks and responsibilities. I now know that this is a very accurate description. That and working with such a diverse team of extremely knowledgeable and talented people, who care just as much about the success of the program, and seeing them develop and grow, are on top of my list of reasons why I love my position.
Have you also faced any challenges in your time with us?
Yes sure. One of the biggest challenges for me is to find that perfect balance between keeping both the client and our company satisfied and to set up a real partnership rather than a mere supply-demand relationship. I am not saying this is a bad thing, but definitely a challenge sometimes.
What are your tips to others who would like to have this career path within the company?
SELLBYTEL is one of the few companies I’ve worked for that cares about people’s growth, both personally and professionally. So keep your eyes open, take on extra tasks, make use of all the opportunities from training and other departments to develop yourself, and show real commitment. What you put in will always come back to you!
What in your view is special about SELLBYTEL as an employer?
The fact that we get to work with so many different nationalities, how much you learn about yourself and the skills you are able to develop. The list goes on. In no other company would I have learnt as much as I have during the past 5 years at SELLBYTEL.
And finally, how do you like to spend your free time?
I absolutely love to travel! It is so easy to slip away for the weekend from Barcelona, travel just a few hours and see so many different countries and cities. Being from South Africa, I guess I am extra appreciative of this luxury. Lately I have also become almost addicted to yoga. I think this is a great way to clear my mind and get some exercise at the same time.
