Our colleague Simone is what you would call a typical cheerful spirit from the German Rhineland. The 32 years old, who grew up in Krefeld, North-Rhine Westphalia, moved to far away Franconia, to start her career with SELLBYTEL in customer service. Simone is a career changer, who originally studied to become a teacher and worked in catering, before she joined SELLBYTEL in Fuerth. In this interview, she gives us an insight into her rather unusual career.
Simone, how did you end up in customer service and how did you join SELLBYTEL?
I really enjoyed my biology studies in Goettingen and my theology and English studies in Essen. At some point, however, I realized I don’t see myself teaching at a school.
So I started looking for new opportunities and came across SELLBYTEL. I started in 2011 as a career changer in customer service for our project, a leading investment bank. A recruiter called me and invited me to an assessement center. One month later, I planned my relocation to Franconia.
That sounds exciting … And how has your career changed during your time at SELLBYTEL?
I constantly worked on developing my skills, and in 2014 I got the chance to manage the training of new employees and the development of our longtime colleagues as a project trainer.
At the end of 2014, I became supervisor and I have managed my own team ever since.
What are your tasks in your current position as a supervisor?
I am the first point of contact for my team when it comes to technical and process related topics of our client.
I also support my colleagues through coachings, meetings and feedback talks. By doing that, I help them grow professionally in the best way possible and increase their satisfaction
It is very important for me to develop professionally myself, assess the team’s performance regularly and identify the right strategy in collaboration with our trainers and quality managers.
I have further been involved in the onboarding of new supervisors for two years, and also in helping team leaders get familiar with new processes and requirements.
Since the end of 2015, I have managed different HR and recruiting tasks as well. Respectively, I collaborate closely with the colleagues in the recruitment department to help them find the perfect candidates for our project.
What do you most enjoy about all your tasks?
It is the whole package I most love about my job. I enjoy being challenged through my different requirements and tasks.
In my six years at SELLBYTEL I have grown massively both personally and professionally thanks to my superiors, trainers and colleagues. I have learned a lot, which I am very thankful for.
Plus, I can totally rely on my team, which always gives me a good feeling.
Do you have any tips for people interested in a similar career?
Sure. Stay curious about your job and your environment. Dedicate yourself and be authentic as well as calm, when needed. And what I find very important too: take on honest and constructive feedback – especially when you don’t like it!
How do you spend your free time?
Compared to the diversity of my job, my free time is rather unspectacular, but also very nice. I like starting the day outside early the morning. The fresh air, watching the birds and the different smells are a great balance to my busy office life. I love good food, interesting conversations and good music. I also really like to laugh. (Laughs)
